SUMMER CAMP COUNSELOR/PROGRAM COUNSELOR Camp Name: Camp Jewell YMCA Camp Location: Colebrook, CT Camp Description: Camp Jewell has been a pioneer in YMCA Camping since 1901! Located one hour outside of Hartford, CT and 2 ½ hours from New York City and Boston and nestled within the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains, YMCA Camp Jewell is a home away from home for over 1500 campers a summer. Jewell is a fun and safe place where kids get to experience tons of different camp activities such as: horseback riding, canoeing, fishing, arts and crafts, teambuilding, climbing, mountain boarding, archery, sports, swimming, large group games and much, much more. We serve campers ages 7-17 and strive to provide exceptional programming and outstanding role models for everyone! Sponsoring YMCA: YMCA of Metropolitan Hartford YMCA Location: Hartford, CT Job Description and Required Certifications: YMCA Camp Jewell is looking for outstanding role models to work at camp with children in our overnight camp programs. Our Camp Counselors are responsible for the supervision and activity planning for a cabin group of 8-10 campers. We are looking for counselors who are committed to making a positive impact in the lives of the campers we serve. In addition our Program Counselor positions have some cabin and program area responsibilities with a focus on planning and organizing our program clinic areas. Additional qualifications and experience in areas such as life guarding, archery, ropes courses, etc., are beneficial. Qualifications: Required to be at least 18 years of age; one year of college education is required. Skills and Abilities: Must be able work outdoors for the majority of the day. Must be able to lift 50lbs. Requires participation with and leadership of youth in a wide variety of physical activities; requires the ability to traverse the campgrounds on a frequent basis throughout the day. Good communication skills are required; must be able to interact with campers. You must be able to work as part of a team.
