Job Description and Required Certifications: Join a team with vision! YMCA Storer Camps in Jackson, Michigan seeks qualified individuals to teach fourth through eighth grade students, from all social and economic backgrounds, in our residential Outdoor Environmental Education School. The qualified candidate will be knowledgeable of the environment, preferably a lifeguard, enthusiastic, and enjoy working with children. If you are child focused, hard working, and enjoy working as a team member, employment at Storer will help you grow in stature both professionally and personally. Many of our past employees go on to leadership roles at Storer and other fine camps and outdoor centers. Founded in 1918, Storer is a leader in Outdoor Environmental Education. We have recently invested millions into our world class facility. Our 1200-acre campus includes 800 acres of natural undeveloped surroundings with 15 unique ecosystems including a natural 240 acre lake. Our comprehensive facilities are exceptional: from high tech, cutting edge technology, new lodges and dining facilities, to rustic cabin settings. Currently YMCA Storer Camps is developing new curriculum initiatives: including the development of an online Environmental Studies Center; the development of long-distance Learning Lab Modules to enhance the pre and post site visits for the 185+ schools that attend our programs; and constructing a large solar PV system that can be monitored from classrooms around the world. Qualifications include experience working with children involving life-skills building, character development, education, teambuilding and independence. We are seeking educators with skills and interests in any of the following areas, Natural Science (interpretive naturalist), Environmental Awareness, Cultural History, and Adventure Education. Other areas of interest include Equestrian (English and Western), Woodland Native American History, Pioneer Living and Tools, Reptile/Amphibian Care-Taking and/or Camp Health Officer. Our Program Educators typically work from August through June with shorter terms of employment available. Some weekend work within our Specialty Camping programs is required. Salary’s begin at $240.00 on up depending on certification(s) and experience. Room and board are included.
