Camp Location: Middleville, MI
Camp Description: Located on Barlow Lake, Camp Manitou-Lin offers kids a variety of experiences! To support the amenities listed, we have nine out buildings and 10 resident cabins that can house 220 people. Our riding center houses 50 horses year-round and we also have two archery ranges, a chapel, zip line, high ropes course, rock wall, along with three docks and a variety of boats

Job Description and Required Certifications: The counselor will identify and meet camper needs, carry out camp programs, and help campers become better people. Room and board is required for all Overnight Camp Counselor positions. Pay is $185/week KNOW HOW High school diploma of General Education Diploma (GED); six months to one year of related experience or training; documented experience working with children; or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Ability and desire to work with children of all age groups. Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles. Enthusiasm, patience, and self-control required. Desire and ability to work and live outdoors. YMCA experience preferred. Must be 18 years of age or older. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for rescue (preferred)) First Aid certification (preferred) PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES Identify and meet camper needs. Learn the likes/dislikes of each participant. Recognize and respond to opportunities for problem solving in the group. Develop opportunities for interaction between campers and staff. Provide opportunities for the group so that each individual experiences success during camp. Provide opportunities for discussion of individual or group problems or concerns. Help each participant meet the goals established by the camp for camper development. Camp Programs Guide cabin or trail groups and individual campers in participating successfully in all aspects of camp activities. Carry out established roles for supervising camper health. Carry out established roles in enforcing camp safety regulations. Develop cabin or trail group activity plans with participants as appropriate. Supervise all assigned aspects of the campers' day, including morning reveille, cabin clean-up, meal times, rest hour, evening activities, getting ready for bed, and after-hours duty as assigned. Instruct campers in emergency procedures such as fire drills, evacuating the cabin, etc. Help campers plan their participation in unit-wide or camp-wide programs, special events, and activities. Assist in teaching or leading an activity, as assigned. Administrative Prepare for and actively participate in staff training, meetings, and supervisory conferences if appropriate. Set a good example for campers and others, including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing clean-up and chores, sportsmanship, and table manners. Follow camp rules and regulations pertaining to smoking, use of alcoholic beverages, and use of drugs. Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities. Manage personal time off in accordance with camp policy. Maintain good public relations with campers' parents. Submit all required reports on time. These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required. Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of Camp Manitou-Lin and the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids ABILITY REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme heat.
