Camp Description: Sherman Lake YMCA Outdoor Center, an independent YMCA camp and conference center, is a state-of-the art facility founded on the four principles of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility, which values are integrated into all endeavors. The result of this culture has been a life-affecting experience for those who deliver the character-based programs to participants. Recently the Integrated Education (IE) program was notified that the American Camp Association, Eleanor P. Eells award for program excellence will be presented at the ACA annual convention. Become a member of the staff team who are dedicated to facilitating this collaborative, positive, student-centered approach curriculum to helping kids be successful both academically and socially. The Outdoor Center is located on 365 acres of woodland and lakefront and is conveniently located midway between Detroit and Chicago. Summer program offerings include a large day and resident camp program and high school leadership development program. A unique YMCA membership recreation facility featuring an indoor pool, fitness facility, Pilates studio, indoor climbing wall and high ropes course, two gymnasiums and more is located on the grounds of the Center.

Job Description and Required Certifications: Join the team of 2012's ACA award winning Camp. The Associate Camp Director will serve as Resident Camp Director and provide a leadership role in the IE (school camping) program. The Associate Camp Director is responsible for leadership aspects of the Resident Camp/IE program including serving as liaison with school administrators, teachers, students and establishing strong parent/camper relationships, budget oversight, hiring, scheduling and supervision of staff. The Associate Camp Director is responsible to carry out the mission and vision of Sherman Lake YMCA programs. POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree is required (education is preferred, a degree in recreation or related field may be considered). Prior camp experience of at least five years, administrative experience for at least 5 years is necessary. The incumbent must possess a variety of skills to include leadership development, communication, program planning and management, fiscal control, promotion and public relations, administration, camping and the recruitment, training and evaluation of staff and volunteers. The position requires the ability to role model the four principles of Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility. Current CPR First Responder Certification or Wilderness First Aid and certification in high ropes, lifeguard training and a CDL driver’s license endorsement will be eventual requirements.

Salary Information: Commensurate with experience.
