Camp Description: Since 1914, Camp Loma Mar has offered a rich tradition of values programming in a wonderful outdoor setting in San Mateo County. Loma Mar is located in the Santa Cruz Mountain range, 15 miles south of Half Moon Bay and just 10 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean.

Job Description and Required Certifications: Primary Duties: (full Job Description available upon request) • Position is primary onsite leadership staff person for year-round camp facility with 288 beds and must provide a strong day-to-day presence among the staff, partners, volunteers and guests. • Ensure that the safety of program participants and staff is always our top priority. • Responsible for marketing and outreach to increase revenue growth through increased conference and retreat bookings. • Hire, train, schedule, supervise and evaluate all assigned staff which currently includes Group Services staff and Kitchen Manager. • Coordinate conference and retreat bookings to ensure programs are offered as desired, resulting in excellent guest experiences evidenced by post event evaluations and strong retention. • Responsible for all business functions including registrations, banking, revenue collection, and related tasks as well as implementation of systems to ensure maximization of these functions. • Supervise Kitchen Manager and oversee Food Services department to ensure smooth operation of department, consistent staffing patterns, staff accountability, food quality, compliance with food safety standards and excellent guest service. • Facilitate strong communication among and between all departments at Camp Loma Mar and Camping Services operation. • Work in partnership with the Executive Director of Camping Services to create and manage the annual operating budget for Camp Loma Mar. • Provide lead role with volunteers including leadership to committees and fundraising efforts • Promote collaboration with other agencies, schools, and other organizations and work closely with current Camp Loma Mar partners. • Actively work with YMCA branches as assigned to increase awareness of and participation in camping as program the branches. • Direct and manage branch wide efforts for continuous operational improvement. • Participate as a member of the YMCA of the East Bay and Camping Services management team, participating in meetings, retreats and other related activities as directed. • Serve as a role model of YMCA leadership and the mission and character values of the YMCA. Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent and three or more years of professional camp experience or equivalent. The ideal candidate has demonstrated success in the areas of safety, organization and planning, marketing, staff leadership and supervision, financial development, communications and fiscal management. This position requires excellent relationship building skills for work with user groups, partners, staff, and volunteers; excellent organization and leadership skills; ability to train/coach; strong oral & written communication skills; planning skills and experience; and problem-solving skills. The candidate must think strategically, be detail oriented, customer-focused, and be able to lead change. S/he must be effective with diverse populations, be results-driven, strike an effective balance between patience & determination, and be able to collaborate effectively. S/he must guide or direct all actions within a continuing consciousness of the operating objectives of Camping Services. Additionally, • Requires at least three years experience supervising, training and developing staff, or equivalent, with strong skills in this area. • Requires strong decision making, problem solving, organization and supervision skills • Requires excellent computer skills and the ability to manage information systems. • Experience in budgeting and writing reports. • Experience working with grants highly desirable. • Requires valid Driver’s License and personal vehicle. • Current CPR, First Aid and waterfront lifeguard certifications, or ability to obtain within six months of hire, highly desirable. • Experience and/or certification in ropes course, climbing and related equipment preferred • Background in/understanding of YMCA strongly preferred • Must have the physical, visual and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations. • This position involves physical activity such as carrying, lifting up to 50 lbs. on occasion and the ability to walk long distances with elevation changes of more than 60 feet. This position must be able to lead groups through uneven terrain for a minimum of a five mile hike.
