PROGRAM DIRECTOR Camp Name: Camp McConnell Camp Location: Micanopy, FL Camp Description: Resident Camp Sponsoring YMCA: McConnell YMCA Outdoor Center YMCA Location: Micanopy, FL Job Description and Required Certifications: JOB OVERVIEW AND RESPONSIBILITIES Under the direction of the Executive Director of YMCA Camp McConnell, the Program Director will be responsible for living on-site and overseeing the daily management and leadership of all Resident Camp programs, participants and staff and oversee non-summer programming, including but not limited to group rentals, teambuilding and ropes activities, outdoor education classes and conferences. The Program Director will be accountable for the development and administration of the departments, program development and promotion, implementation and evaluation, staff scheduling and supervision, and financial operation in accordance with the Camps and Association goals, objectives and policies. JOB REQUIREMENTS This position prefers a bachelor's degree in Recreation, Elementary Education, Environmental Studies or related field, or its equivalent in work experience, and 2-4 years previous experience with the YMCA or a similar agency is vital to the success in this position. Position requires broad knowledge and experience in the field of camping and prior experience in the development and administration of camp programs. Applicant must have basic programming skills with special emphasis on youth and family activities, as well as, experience in a residential camp setting. The ability to relate to all age groups is essential. Knowledge of the American Camping Association (ACA) guidelines preferred. Experience with high ropes course and zip line (including inspection and maintenance of equipment) highly preferred. Experience in the supervision and training of volunteer and paid staff, fiscal management and program development is essential. An understanding of group work and team-building is also important.
