YMCA Camp Cha-La-Kee Camp Counselors live in the cabin with campers ages 7 to 14 (5 to 12 for mini-camp) and provide care for camper physical, mental, social, emotional and spiritual well-being. Overnight Camp Counselors are also responsible for providing a fun and enjoyable experience for campers and leading camp activities.
EXPERIENCE/PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Willingness to carry out the mission of the YMCA and its programs.
- Ability to see that all business and safety records and procedures set up by the corporation are completed accurately within the defined time schedule.
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain all personal certifications needed to serve in this position.
- Ability to interpret, as well as, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to work independently and utilize initiative, ability to be organized and to meet deadlines.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to learn and utilize other software programs.
- Work to continue personal competency through education, outside literature, seminars, etc.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated record of individual development.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Child Abuse Training prior to the supervision of children.
- Be certified in First Aid, CPR, and Lifeguarding (in-house training available).
- Have specific land and water activities skills as needed for program type.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES
- Communicate and promote the YMCA mission, goals and objectives to employees, volunteers and the community at large.
- Promote a safe and positive atmosphere during scheduled working hours.
- Identifies and resolves problem areas to ensure member/camper satisfaction and maintain the highest quality of programs and services.
- Enhance the physical and emotional wellbeing of each camper.
- Supervise campers at all times.
- Inform Supervisor of any incident with staff or campers.
- Provide guidance and structure based on Camp Cha-La-Kee policy.
- Lead a cabin chat (devotion) every night.
- Insure campers attend all camp functions on time.
- Facilitate all camp activities as needed.
- Responsible for any other duties as assigned by the Camp Director.
