Camp Y-Noah is a 250 acre year round YMCA camp located just south of Akron, Ohio. (ACA Accredited)

Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director, the Outdoor Learning Center Director will be responsible for the development, implementation, staffing, and program services for 1) Outdoor Education; 2) Rental Groups; and 3) the Leadership Development Center. 

The Outdoor Learning Center Director (OLC Director) will provide ongoing leadership to program areas to ensure proper staffing levels, proper planning, execution, evaluation of the day‑to‑day programmatic and logistical operations, and the highest level quality customer service on behalf of YMCA Camp Y-Noah.  It is expected that the OLC Director will be an active participant in all Camping Services initiatives and help to achieve all goals. This position must be able to work in a team environment, coordinating with all staff as appropriate, and be willing to do what it takes to ensure all guests and campers have a positive experience.

  1. Bachelor’s degree in education, recreation, environmental education or related field
  2. A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the field

  3. Ability to create and maintain the department budget

  4. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

  5. Sales experience

  6. A professional demeanor; organized, group problem solving skills, delegate responsibilities effectively, etc.

  • Mission Advancement: Models and teaches the Y’s values.  Ensures a high level of service with a commitment to improving lives. Provides volunteers with orientation, training, development, and recognition. Cultivates relationships to support fundraising.

Empathetically listens and communicates for understanding when negotiating and dealing with conflict. Effectively tailors communications to the appropriate audience. Provides staff with feedback, coaching, guidance, and support.

  • Operational Effectiveness: Provides others with frameworks for making decisions. Conducts prototypes to support the launching of programs and activities. Develops plans and manages best practices through engagement of team. Effectively creates and manages budgets. Holds staff accountable for high-quality results using a formal process to measure progress.

  • Personal Growth: Shares new insights. Facilitates change; models adaptability and awareness of the impact of change. Utilizes non-threatening methods to address sensitive issues and inappropriate behavior or performance. Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology.

  1. Responsible for preparing the annual program budgets for areas of responsibility, and administers the approved budget, exercising necessary controls to assure compliance with the accepted plan of operation
  2. Plan, supervise, facilitate and evaluate programs and services to ensure high quality

  3. Ensure safety in all programs for all participants and staff

  4. Identifies and corrects any risk management concerns in a timely manner

  5. Hire, train, supervise and evaluate staff involved with the Outdoor Learning Center (10-15 part time staff)

  6. Follow American Camp Association and ACCT standards with respect to programs, staffing, and climbing structures

  7. Develop positive relationships with all guests on camp

  8. Assist with upkeep of the general facility, leading by example for part-time staff

  9. Market programs with help from marketing department

  10. Assist with the Annual Campaign as a staff liaison

  11. Attend meetings as required (staff meetings, Program Teams, YMCA Management Assemblies, etc.)

  12. Reply to questions and concerns in a timely manner

  13. Help recruit campers and staff from groups that visit camp
