YMCA Camp Piomingo is located within Otter Creek Outdoor Recreation Area in Brandenburg, KY - a 50 minute drive from downtown Louisville and less than 15 minutes from each of two other nearby towns. The ACA accredited camp has a camper capacity of over 300 and has the only equestrian camp program in the state with 24 horses and a 14-stable barn. The $1 million operation (75% summer camp, 15% school-year groups, 10% contributions) is poised for growth with enrollment trending upward in recent years.

We offer you a career with a future and the chance to make a lasting difference in your community.  The Assistant Program Director will share the responsibility of managing the delivery of summer camp and group programming while keeping in mind the health, safety and welfare of all campers and staff. Involvement in marketing, staff development, and curriculum design will be designated by the Program Director.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: 

The Assistant Program Director must have/be: 

  • At least 22 years of age
  • Ability to live onsite as needed
  • Bachelors Degree required: Education or Outdoor Recreation preferred
  • Certified in First Aid, CPR and Lifeguard
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work with children and place their needs ahead of their own
  • Previous experience managing staff
  • A current driver’s license
  • Meet all insurance eligibility requirements, including a good driving record and a successful drug test
  • Able to attend Leadership trainings,  summer staff training, and 9 weeks of summer camp 

STATUS:  Full Time, Year Round, Exempt             

STARTING SALARY:  $22,000+ (Based on experience; Plus housing and some meals) 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Uphold the mission of the YMCA, and demonstrate behaviors that reflect a determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and welcoming nature.
  • Coordinate, plan, and implement all traditional camp activities with seasonal leadership staff and the Program Director
  • Supervise, evaluate, and mentor seasonal leadership staff
  • Review, distribute, and collect camper paperwork
  • Actively involved in camper registration both before, during, and after camp
  • Have the ability to perform routine first aid tasks
  • Ensure that the program cabins, lodge, bathhouse, and other unit and program areas meet health, safety, and cleanliness standards
  • Assist with beginning and end of seasonal cleaning and inventory as directed
  • Make sure all staff and campers attend all camp functions on time
  • Make sure that staff are engaged supervising campers at all time
  • Report all major camper and staff incidents to the Program Director and complete Incidents Reports as necessary
  • Participate in all scheduled camp activities
  • Perform night safety watch
  • Perform other duties for the better of camp as directed by the Program Director
  • Observe camper and staff behavior, asses its appropriateness, enforce safety regulations and emergency procedures and apply appropriate behavior management techniques
  • Assist Program Director with Marketing material as needed
  • Assist Groups Coordinator with seasonal camp responsibilities as needed.
