I'll Have a Run for Lunch

CoachTonyVan D's on vacation this week, so check out our guest blogger, Shawnie D!

One of my favorite things to do is to run with colleagues over my lunch hour. There are days when I feel like I accomplished more during my thirty-minute run than my eight hours at work that same day. I find that I am more honest, direct, and open-minded when having a conversation while running outside versus in a meeting room in the office.  more

Memorial Day Reflections

We’re remembering all the fallen soldiers this Memorial Day. It’s also a nice time to relax with friends and family and maybe some encased meats. Holidays in general make me pause and take stock – of my life, of time, of my world.

My daughter is only five months old, but warnings to savor this time come uninvited from both friends and strangers. “They’ll be off to college in a blink.” “The longest shortest time.” I get the ‘longest’ part. Runners, Warm Up Your Engines!

Have you ever run a race or start an interval workout where you find yourself breathing harder than you feel you should be at that pace, and your legs feel like they're stuck in mud? Eventually your body adapts and you begin to feel more comfortable, either in subsequent intervals or later in the race. This is why you run a warmup first. more

What, me worry?

I read an article yesterday about how just the act of worrying makes people miserable. Great! Now I can add the effect of worrying to my list of worries!

If you asked me a year ago if I was a worrier, I would have said no. Definitively no. I know that I can’t predict or avoid the pitfalls, and there will be pitfalls, so I don’t (usually) spend time on them before I have to. more
