Teaching Young Kids What Healthy Foods Are

Before the summer kicked off, college student Lisa Riggsbee from North Carolina helped us start the conversation about bringing healthy food to our communities. The work continues. From Asheville all the way to Pennsylvania, young leaders across the country are doing their part to make sure not only that kids are getting their fill of fun, but also learning about what foods are healthy to eat. This week, let's check out what folks are doing in York City to bring access to healthy foods to cut down on obesity and other health problems in their town.  more

Running Helps with Depression in Older People

Bob Glover, author of the bestselling “The Competitive Runner’s Handbook," (which I bought when I first started running) recently wrote about when he was Athletic Director at New York's West Side YMCA in 1975, he recruited Robin Williams onto his YMCA team. For a short time they trained together and raced together. Then Williams disappeared to become a comedian/actor superstar. more

What Is Your Passion?

When asked the question, “What do you do at the Y?” we all should try to think beyond the tasks and day to day activities and say, “I am a cause-driven leader who helps to change lives and strengthen my community and that's a great feeling.” It doesn’t matter what tasks we have, we are all doing something as part of the greater good for the movement as a whole and we each are here because of our passion for the work.              more
