This Week in Young Leaders

Teaching Young Kids What Healthy Foods Are

Before the summer kicked off, college student Lisa Riggsbee from North Carolina helped us start the conversation about bringing healthy food to our communities. The work continues. From Asheville all the way to Pennsylvania, young leaders across the country are doing their part to make sure not only that kids are getting their fill of fun, but also learning about what foods are healthy to eat. This week, let's check out what folks are doing in York City to bring access to healthy foods to cut down on obesity and other health problems in their town.  more

What Is Your Passion?

When asked the question, “What do you do at the Y?” we all should try to think beyond the tasks and day to day activities and say, “I am a cause-driven leader who helps to change lives and strengthen my community and that's a great feeling.” It doesn’t matter what tasks we have, we are all doing something as part of the greater good for the movement as a whole and we each are here because of our passion for the work.              more

My Best High School Experience

These Are Our Stories

Riley is a young governor with a healthy sense of humor and the motivation to "do more, be more." Dany believes that calling the Y her second home isn't just a saying.  Amy's showing us a whole new side of leadership through the lens of her camera. And Seth may get nervous talking in front of hundreds of people, but he gets the job done. All four young leaders come from different corners of the country, but they have one thing in common: Youth and Government™.

These are their stories

The Origin of Selfies (And Why You Should Care)

If you're a Millennial that's, say, 18 or 19, then selfies have been a part of your life experience since forever. But where did they come from? Well, we can thank the (got to click on the post to find out!) for giving us the word, and - in fact - the first appearance of the word surfaced in one of the country's online news channels around 2002.
