Epilogue to Mother’s Day

Sometimes life is all about the beautiful moments.

Yesterday, I was riding the bus, minding my own business. I can’t always say that, but yesterday it was true. Then, this beautiful moment unfolded.
A group of grandmas (pardon my presumption, but I’m painting a picture) were saying goodbye to one of their friends about to get off the bus, everyone wishing everyone else a happy Mother’s Day. As one grandma stepped off the bus and onto the curb, she said to no one and everyone, “happy Mother’s Day to all mothers!”
I loved that moment of joyful solidarity. I have this incredible thing in common with this group of women from a different era wearing their orthotics and retouching their peach lipstick. And we’re proud of that thing.
So while I gazed deeply and longingly into my naval last Friday, Mother’s Day is also just a fun day to celebrate the collective act of mommying. I hope everyone had a happy Mother’s Day!
Do tell. What did you love about Mother’s Day?
Andrea Lee is a mom who’s winging it, just like everyone else.
