Where Are They Now?

A few years ago, Dany Sok was just an everyday high school student looking to find out more about the world around her through civic engagement and democratic issues. To become an outstanding young leader, nothing got her in way - not even a brief period of homelessness when she turned to the Y's Youth and Government™ program for a little light in her life. Here's what this Washington state resident's been up to since she last told her story and why she's on the up and up! more

Much Ado About Bathtime

Another day, another thing you’re not doing right as a parent. In this week’s news, you’re probably giving your kid too many baths. I came across this blog entry on the Washington Post that proclaims a bath everyday is too much.  more

Life Skills

A few weeks ago, my fiancé and I had a friend over who brought her teenage daughter and one of her classmates. The girls sat on the couch, headphones on and eyes glued to their smart phones. They weren’t talking to us or each other. When asked what their favorite subject was in school, one replied, “None of them."

I’m not going to get on my high horse and write an essay about how technology is ruining our kids and how things were so much better “back in my day." No Sick Days

I knew this day would come. It wasn't a matter of if, but when. It was my first time getting sick as mom. Really sick. A sinus infection with a side of bronchitis, to be exact. To make matters worse, the baby girl was sick too. A high fever, congestion, runny nose, the whole nine yards. And the cherry on top, her dad was out of town on a business trip. more
