YMCA of the USA Board of Directors elects Executive Committee, new member at annual meeting
Albany, N.Y., volunteer Kenneth B. Colloton to serve two-year term as board chairman.
CHICAGO, August 20, 2007—At its recent annual meeting, the YMCA of the USA Board of Directors elected a four-person Executive Committee to lead the board for the next two years. The committee is: Kenneth B. Colloton, Albany, N.Y., chairman; David C. Shindeldecker, Houston, Texas; vice chairman; John Corya, Greensburg, Ind., treasurer; and William Alcott, Richmond, Va., secretary. All four of the committee members are active volunteers for their local YMCAs in addition to their service at the national level.
The board also elected a new director, Sharon Allen, of Los Angeles, Calif. She brings the total number of directors to 26.
In guiding the national resource office for the country’s 2,663 YMCAs, the Y-USA board will work to deliver on The YMCA’s Commitment to America, which states:
America’s YMCAs commit to extend our charitable heritage by directly engaging 25 million children and adults from all segments of our communities in achieving health of spirit, mind and body by 2012.
- Every child and youth will deepen positive values, their commitment to service and their motivation to learn.
- Every family will build stronger bonds, achieve greater work/life balance and become more engaged with their communities.

Kenneth B. Colloton is senior vice president and director of government banking for Citizens Bank. He is a past treasurer and vice chairman of the YMCA of the USA Board of Directors, and he has served as board chair for two local YMCAs: the Capital District YMCA in Albany and the Greenbush Area YMCA in East Greenbush, N.Y. As a member of the Executive Committee of the World Alliance of YMCAs, he provides policy and strategic leadership to YMCAs in 124 countries. An active community volunteer, Colloton is a gubernatorial appointee to Hudson Valley College in Troy, N.Y. and a state Senate appointee to the New York Business Development Corporation. He also has served on committees or boards of the Center for Economic Growth, Albany Medical Center and College, Union University College of Pharmacy and the Albany-Colonie Chamber of Commerce.
David C. Shindeldecker is president and CEO of The Redstone Companies, a Houston-based diversified investment management company focusing on private-equity, hedge-fund and financial-advisory services. He is a longtime volunteer and former board chair of the YMCA of the Greater Houston Area.
John Corya is an agricultural entrepreneur in Greensburg, Ind. He started and operates 10 diversified corporations and is a grain farmer and pork producer. Corya is a member and former chairman of the Decatur County Family YMCA Board of Directors.
William Allcott is executive vice president of McGuireWoods Consulting LLC in Richmond. He leads McGuireWoods’ strategic communications practice, which provides crisis-management and issues-advocacy services to corporate and institutional clients nationwide. A licensed attorney, he also is the author of two books. Allcott has been a member of the YMCA of Greater Richmond Board of Directors since 1998 and chair of the Virginia State Alliance of YMCAs since 2000.
Sharon Allen is chairman of the board of Deloitte & Touche USA LLP. Based in Los Angeles, she is responsible for the governance of an organization with more than $10 billion in annual revenues, and she oversees the firm’s relationships with a number of major multinational clients. A former board chair of the Treasure Valley YMCA (Boise, Idaho) and a member of the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles Board of Directors, Allen has been honored often for her business and community leadership. Forbes magazine recently named her one of the 100 most powerful women in the world. Last year, she was named “Private Sector Woman of the Year” by the Financial Women’s Association. She has been called one of “50 Women to Watch” by the Wall Street Journal and has earned the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Business Leader Award.
