DANIEL A. CASEY ELECTED CHAIR OF THE NATIONAL BOARD OF YMCA OF THE USA
Eminent Miami attorney has been ardent supporter of children and families
Chicago, June 10, 2005 - Daniel A. Casey, a trial attorney in Miami, Florida, has been elected chair of the national board of YMCA of the USA. The 25-member board contributes to the policy-making and planning efforts of YMCA of the USA (Y-USA), the national resource office for the country's 2,595 YMCAs. Mr. Casey assumed his leadership post during a board meeting here June 9, succeeding David E. Epperson, Ph.D., of Pittsburgh, who becomes Immediate Past Board Chair. Board officers serve during a two year term.
Daniel Casey is a former Dade County prosecutor and current litigator and the Miami administrative partner with Kirkpatrick & Lockhart Nicholson Graham LLP. In that capacity, he represents business clients in a broad spectrum of commercial and corporate governance matters, product liability and toxic tort claims and coverage disputes with their insurance carriers. He is a frequent lecturer and author on litigation tactics, business liability and insurance claims and has been recognized as being among the "Florida Legal Elite" by Florida Trend Magazine and as one of the "Top Lawyers in South Florida" by the South Florida Legal Guide.
A former board member and then president of the Broward County YMCA, Mr. Casey has also served as member and then Field Chair of Y-USA's South Field regional organization, was elected to Y-USA's National Board in 1998 and served as vice-chair since June 2003. He has also chaired the Y-USA Board Development Committee and Governing the Movement Task Force.
Daniel Casey has held leadership positions in the Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, the Dade County Bar Association, Leadership Hollywood and the Broward Outreach Center for the Homeless
He received a B.S. from Wheeling Jesuit College, W.Va., graduating summa cum laude, and his J.D., with honors, from Georgetown University Law Center, Washington, D.C.
Mr. Casey and his wife Cristy Pena, live in Hollywood, Fla., with their three children, all fully involved in their YMCA.
