TODAY and YMCA Exceed Goal of 1 Million Acts of Kindness During Holiday Season

This holiday season, the Y and TODAY have been working towards the goal of logging 1 million acts of kindness throughout the United States. Today, it was announced that the goal was exceeded! Y spokesperson and chef Marcus Samuelsson and kids from the Harlem YMCA stopped by to share the good news as well as a recipe families can make in the new year.

Basketball: From humble beginnings, hoops celebrates 125th birthday

A game drawn up to occupy some bored boys as winter approached at a Massachusetts gymnasium celebrates its 125th anniversary on Wednesday and basketball's status as the world's second most popular sport. Basketball began on Dec 21, 1891 at the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) gym in Springfield with rules made up by Canadian physical education instructor James Naismith.

The YMCA has joined forces with TODAY to share acts of kindness and has surpassed their initial goal, contributing more than 27,000 acts. In Pennsylvania, a group has been knitting blankets for cancer patients. TODAY is halfway to 1 million acts of kindness and still counting, and you can join in! (By TODAY with our sponsor YMCA).
